Union Representatives

I started my first Union job as a meat cutter at Byerly's in Golden Valley back in 1977.

My first involvement with the union was attending the regular monthly membership meetings on a regular basis. From there I put in a letter to be on the upcoming negotiations and was selected to participate on the 1989 committee. After that experience I was totally sold on the union movement and when a position on the Executive Board opened up, I put another letter in and was selected.  I also serve as a trustee on both our Health and Welfare and Pension funds. With these jobs, I have found that if we put our heads together and work hard on the solutions we can overcome almost any problems that we encounter. With that being said, it’s truly been my honor to serve this membership as your Business Representative and I am looking forward to working with you in the future.

In July 2011 I accepted the opportunity to join the staff of Local 653 as a business agent. Prior to this I have worked hard in the grocery industry for the past 34 years – the last 21 years as a dairy-frozen foods manager for Rainbow Foods. I have also been fortunate to participate with others in our union on numerous contract negotiation committees as well as serving as a member of the Executive Board for 4 ½ years.

I consider it an honor to work on behalf of you and all the members of Local 653. As a member of this union you have much to be proud of. I look forward to meeting all of you in the future.

I started in the industry as a carryout for Thriftway in Crystal. I was hired by Rainbow Foods in 1984 as a meat cutter and started going to union meetings to learn more of what they were all about. Over the years I participated as I could—helping on the Country Club strike, informational picket lines, bowling tournaments and other union activities. As part of that, I served on my first negotiating committee. Seeing our union from that perspective only made me more interested in being involved. I wanted to take the next step, and was appointed to the Executive Board. As a board member I got a behind-the-scenes view into how the union runs and how we can shape our future. It’s exciting and something I want to be part of. In July 2007 I was asked to join the staff as a business agent. 

I live in Andover with my wife, Theresa, and our four sons:  Ryan (18), Kyle (15), Matthew (13) and Brady (4). In my free time I enjoy my sons’ soccer and hockey games, fishing, boating and camping.

I have been a member of Local 653 and worked for Cub Foods for 14 years. I have enjoyed serving on numerous contract negotiations and was an Executive Board member since 2010. Effective March of 2015, I was asked to join the staff as a Business Representative. I encourage all members to become more involved and have a voice in their future.

I've been married to my wife Patty for 26 years and have been blessed with two children. I enjoy traveling, golf, and spending time with my family.

I started in the industry in September 1996 as a bakery clerk for McGlynns Bakery. In 1998 I joined Local 653 and was prompted to bakery manager; I have worked for several different companies since then, all under the Rainbow banner.

I became involved with the union by attending regular membership meetings and union activities. I have served on the past 4 negotiating committees and look forward to many more.

I live in Minneapolis with my husband and 2 children; I enjoy spending time with them and being involved in all of their activities.

Above all I am excited to serve the membership of this local.
